Doss Michaels marries Abbie Coleman in spite of her wealthy Charleston parents’ disapproval. Abbie nurtures Doss’ artistic skills and enlarges his world view. They love each other deeply and together battle her cancer. When all treatments fail, Abbie wants one thing…to finish a ten-item bucket list. She and Doss take off along the St. Mary’s River.
Her father believes Doss has kidnapped Abbie and that she will die. He has the entire area of Florida and Georgia searching for them. Doss is determined to fulfill Abbie’s wishes before they are caught and he probably faces prison.
Disaster, unexpected help, tragedy, courage, joy, and difficulty after difficulty accompany Doss and Abbie on this trip. One scene had me chuckling to friends, when Doss dons a shirt around his neck.
Will they succeed in fulfilling Abbie’s desires? Will they be caught and unable to finish the trip? Will Abbie survive? What will happen to Doss at the end? And Abbie’s father?
This story portrays deep, unending, committed love that may bring tears to readers’ eyes. Powerfully and beautifully written, my first novel from this author, but I plan to now read others.
